Born into a family of professional musicians, Magdalena began her cello studies at the age of eleven with her parents. She completed her undergraduate studies at the Bucharest Music Academy. Later, she obtained a “Künstlerische Diplom” at “Hochschule für Musik und Theater” in Rostock, Germany, as a scholarship student of Gerd von Bülow. Later on, she obtained her Masters Diploma with Patrick Demenga at Lausanne Music Academy in Switzerland. Magdalena currently spends most of her time in Lausanne, Montreal, and London.

Magdalena has been the recipient of a number of awards and scholarships during her early career, including the San Bartolomeo (Italy) Competition First Prize, the “Jeunesses Musicales Suisse” Award (with trio Athena), the Brambach Foundation Award (Bucharest, Romania), the Fides Foundation Award (Lausanne, Switzerland) and many other Romanian Cello competition awards. As a winner of the “Jeunesses Musicales Suisse” Award for Chamber Music, Magdalena performed with trio Athena a concert broadcasted and recorded by Radio Suisse Romande (Geneva, Switzerland). She also attended Master Classes with Wolfgang Laufer (Fine Arts Quartet), Robert Cohen and Norbert Brainin (Amadeus Quartet), among others.

Magdalena was presented in a series of recitals throughout Europe (Romania, Germany, Moldavia, Ukraine, Italy, Austria, Sweden, Norway, Malta and Switzerland) to great critical acclaim.

Her repertoire covers all known styles. She also performs old music on the baroque cello. Magdalena has also appeared in many concert series and music festivals, such as “Festival d’Opéra d’Avenches” (Switzerland 2003 - 2010), the “Printemps Musicaux” Festival (Switzerland 2008 and 2010) and numerous appearances with the “Aargauer Symphony Orchestra”, the Chamber Orchestra Basel, the “Les Lumieres” Chamber Orchestra (Delemont, Switzerland), the “Suisse Romande” Symphonic Orchestra (Geneva, Switzerland), the Baroque Ensembre “Hortus Amoris” (Morges, Switzerland) and the “Le Moment Baroque” Orchestra (Neuchatel, Switzerland).

Her solo performances with Symphony Orchestras include the “Preclassical Chamber Orchestra” (Geneva, Switzerland), The Bucharest Radio Orchestra (Romania) and the Neuchatel Chamber Orchestra (Switzerland).

Magdalena dedicates a great part of her time to her students. She currently teaches cello at the Sion Conservatory, Neuchatel Conservatory and the Cheseaux - Romanel Music School (Switzerland).

Magdalena speaks fluently seven languages (English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Romanian and Russian). She enjoys traveling, performing and meeting new people around the world.
